up my mind, so i'm telling you. >> according to a new quinnipiac poll, less than a month after sandy hit new jersey, voters there have given him a 72% approval rating. the highest recorded by quinnipiac for a new jersey governor. ever. 95% of new jersey voters gave christie an excellent or good rating for his response to hurricane sandy. and despite criticism from some national republican leaders, 84% approved of christie's praise of president obama's response to the storm, including 69% of republicans. newark's democratic mayor, cory booker, told the new jersey star ledger today, quote, i'm giving a run consideration. critical to my decision is not the difficulties of the politics or positioning in polls, but choosing the position from which i can make the best contributions to the city and state i love. meanwhile, a new rutgers eagleton poll finds governor christie leading mayor booker in a hypothetical race, 53 to 34%. joining me now, david corn and msnbc political analyst, jonathan allen, senior washington correspondent for politico. david corn, let's talk about cory booker for a

absolutely hammered by superstorm sandy and then the nor'easter that added insult to injury. and now the tables are turning as the west coast is going to be bracing for a monster weather pattern that has several states locked on to it's radar for a five-day assault. chad myers is watching the rain, wind, and the snow that is coming. they are really going to get it. how bad is it expected to be? >> there could be 20 inches of rain in spots. you put that up in the mountains and you're talking ten feet of snow and all of a sudden you have mudslides, snow slides, avalanches. it could be an ugly mess. you say a couple of days. i see four separate storms over the next 16 days hitting the same period. one storm out in the pacific, headed through san francisco and up to truckee. you don't go anywhere without the chains in your car. they are going to be chaining everything up and down there through the i-80 pass. there's the flood threat in the green because it's not going to be snowing there. there could be a foot of rain before it finally stops. we are seeing all of this purple area. that's

to survive hurricane sandy and was picked out in new jersey and had to tie it up quickly right before the storm hit to protect it from the storm because they didn't want to have to pick out a new tree. it survived, of course, sitting here and it'll be later on this evening. we had a messy day yesterday. wasn't pretty, the airports had problems too. now as we go throughout the day it's cold in the wake of the norm. for the tree lighting it will be chilly. windchill, 32 and we will see the temperature itself somewhere right around 39. as far as the roads go after that little snow and rain yesterday, secondary roads could have a minor issue but later no problems at the airports. no travel issues whatsoever, we'll see highs in the 40s all through the northeast. rest of the country looks chilly. windchills cool seeing them around the rest of the nation especially in the midwest in the teens. even texas a little cold but the big weather story over the next three days if you are traveling to the west coast, you're not going to see typical west coast weather. it is going to be very cold over
